Installation Operations Manager Dean Bradford has recently renewed his Fire Door installation training at BM Trada following successful completion of a full Audit of our Fire Door Installations.
Speaking about the course, Dean commented: “the BM Trada Q Mark is well recognised across the industry, and for such a specialist thing as the installation of fire doors, it was important we attended such a well-recognised course. Our clients are increasingly asking us to support them with the installation of fire doors and we want to be in a position to do so with full knowledge of the subject. The course was excellent – taking us from the very first steps of identifying the component parts of a fire door all the way through to the final installation and checking of it to ensure that it is correct in every way to ensure compliance”.
Dean continued to say: “It was a really informative and helpful couple of days, and when they set alight a door which was not fully compliant then you start to realise just how important correct specification and installation is”.
Our Managing Director, Tristan Cooke, reinforced the point by saying: “installing fire doors is another specialist skill – it is not something any installer can undertake and underpins once again the importance for clients to engage with specialist contractors rather than MSO’s. The implications of not understanding the make-up of a fire door, or how to install it correctly are huge and since we achieved our initial certification in 2017, Dean’s team have successfully installed thousands of Fire Doors always achieving excellent reports to BM Trada Audits”.
There is a legal requirement for manufacturers of fire doors to demonstrate the ability of their products to resist the passage and spread of fire. However, if they are not properly installed, their fire resistance capabilities can be seriously compromised. The BM TRADA Q-Mark Fire Door Installation scheme has been designed to provide reassurance to specifiers, contractors and end users that the product they have chosen has been installed correctly and that it should perform as intended.
The Q-Mark Fire Door Installation scheme is based on training an individual who takes responsibility for the training and work carried out by several operatives. The scheme is designed to ensure that fire doorsets are being installed correctly, in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions or appropriate guidelines.
The Scheme Aims To Achieve:
- Raise the on-going standard of installation of fire doors.
- Ensure the product’s fire resistance capabilities are maintained.
- Ensure the product’s service life is maximized through correct installation.
- Provide peace of mind that the Installer is suitably qualified and that their work is continually assessed by an independent body.
- Provide specifiers with the means to demonstrate that the installation meets the required standard.
